TFEA/BAT Collection & Bursary Launch.
TFEA began 2016 with the first of its long planned for activities. The exhibition of the Basildon Art Collection henceforth to be called TFEA/BAT Collection opened at a Private View with specially invited guests on Friday 15th January at the Beecroft Gallery Southend on Sea. To the best of my knowledge, this had not been made possible in the past. The BAT Collection now encompassed within TFEA’s care meant this was achievable. The following day the exhibition was open to all and the BAT Collection has remained on view to until it’s closure, at the end of this week, Saturday, 12th March.
The opening evening was a well-attended affair, with many of the arts community and general supporters enjoying the varied art collection, which has been unfortunately hidden away for far too long. I guess the odd glass of fizz added to the enjoyment of that night. As Treasurer of TFEA, I was pleased to see Trevor Harwood, our Chair of the Trust, hand over TFEA’s initial £10,000 cheque to the University of Arts London (UAL). This is to mark the start of the bursary scheme TFEA will run in conjunction with the UAL, to assist students from the Basildon and south Essex area with their studies at the UAL. The awards will be made at the discretion of the UAL in conjunction with TFEA. The awards are not aimed at any specific field of the Arts, just those that UAL cater for and there is a wide choice. I suggest potential students look up their UAL website: www.arts.ac.uk
So, for those who would like the opportunity to see the BAT Collection, it’s only at the Beecroft until late Saturday afternoon, 12th March. Several Trustees will be in attendance and if anyone wishes to know more about TFEA or become involved in the TFEA project, you are most welcome to discuss any aspect with us.
