I have been married to Elizabeth Grant for over 35 years so I cannot help but be influenced by the Arts, although unlike her, I am not an active artist. I have lived in Basildon since 1979, so I feel as much a person of Essex, as I am a north Londoner.
My passion for “art” is centred on music and in particular, Rock although I am keen on Motown which I think was discovered through school disco’s! Personal favourite tastes are fairly wide, ranging from The Beatles through to Yes. I frequently attend concerts, watch music documentaries and read about about music when I get the time.
As far as the visual side of art is concerned it is the modern, sometimes abstract pieces that attract me most. A graduate open show I attended in London several years back, showed amazing installations, enthralling me through being so imaginative. It was those young artists that showed such creativity, moving me perhaps in a similar way to my life-long love of “popular” music.
As a new Trustee to TFEA, I aim to bring my practical business skills to the Treasurer post which has recently become vacant. The previous incumbent stepping down to become a Member of TFEA after dedicated service. My recent working life (now retired) in the City within the Lloyd’s Market of the Insurance industry should stand me in good stead to assist in this role.
